Mr. Mortez L. Barnes
My name is Mortez Barnes, and I am elated to be a part of the Bay Minette Elementary School Family.
I am a graduate of McIntosh High School, Alabama A&M University, and the University of West Alabama. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Secondary English Education and a Master's in Instructional Leadership. Prior to beginning my journey as an Assistant Principal here at BMES, I taught English Language Arts and reading for nine years. In addition to being a classroom teacher, I have served as a teacher mentor, summer school administrator, technology support, PST facilitator, and bus administrator. The 2026-2027 school year begins my 13th year in education and my 4th year as an administrator. I love forward to a great year.
